ROLE-PLAY: AT THE ZOO

 Welcome to the zoo!

Today you are going to become a zoo visitor and a zookeeper. You will talk about animals and learn how to ask and answer questions in English while having fun.

Imagine you are walking around a big zoo with animals from all around the world. You can see lions, elephants, monkeys and many more. Some animals are big, some are small, and all of them are special.

Take turns with a classmate. One of you can be the visitor and the other the zookeeper. Look at the animals and talk about them. You can ask simple questions and answer using easy English words.

You can say things like What animal is this?, It’s a lion or I like this animal. Don’t worry about mistakes  the most important thing is to try and speak English.

At the end, think about your favourite animal in the zoo. Would you like to visit it again? Tell your friends and share your ideas in English!

Purpose:
This role-playing activity encourages students to practice spoken English in a meaningful and interactive way.

How it can be used in the classroom:
Students work in pairs using animal and sentence cards. One student acts as a zoo visitor and the other as a zookeeper, asking and answering simple questions about animals.
